Do you want to make a difference in the lives of young people in Nottinghamshire?
We are currently recruiting volunteers to help run our Breathe spaces in Nottinghamshire, and our WhatsApp/phone support nationally.
Do you share our passion for making a difference in the community? Do you actively listen when people need to talk? Could you resolve problems to help restore peace of mind? Could you patiently reassure someone who is struggling with their mental health?

Breathe Café Volunteers
By becoming a Shawmind volunteer you will be supporting people in your community when they need it most. Our Breathe Cafés are located around the UK to help people have real conversations about mental health.
As a Breathe Café volunteer, you’ll be able to support people who need someone to listen and signpost appropriate mental health support.
Annie*, who has volunteered at the Breathe Café since it opened, said: “There is nothing else like Breathe available out there for people who feel they need some support.
“It’s a big step for them to come through the door to talk to us, but it’s a real privilege when you start to build that trust – it feels really good.
“People come to Breathe because it’s established a good reputation in the town and I keep coming back because I feel that I’m part of something special.”
BreatheUni is a safe space for students. Run by students, for students, it’s the perfect starting point for anyone looking for support and learning about mental health and wellbeing, personal development and equality, diversity and inclusion.
BreatheUni provides a non-judgemental environment in which to discuss, share and learn with peers who are Mental Health First Aiders and are well trained to signpost relevant information and resources
Got a specialist skill that we could make use of?
We also work with businesses to help them provide volunteering opportunities through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
Whatever your particular skillset, we will help you make a difference, with whatever amount of time you’re able to give.
If you choose to volunteer with us, you will not only be adding to the lives of those you are supporting but also to your own. You can make a positive difference to those experiencing mental ill health and gain new skills and friends along the way.
Volunteering is also a great way to gain work experience and we are able to provide you with a reference for future job prospects based on your time with us.
Shawmind relies on volunteers to be able to offer our local services, and therefore even a commitment of one hour a week can make a big difference.
Volunteers across the country help to bring our services to their local communities. All volunteers benefit from Basic Mental Health Support training as well as a full induction process helping them achieve the most out of their volunteer experience.
